The nub of the snubs
Last few weeks have been a week of snubs across the country and outside. It all started with the none of the Pakistani players being bid for in the IPL auctions. Likened to a thappad by a few, that was indeed a royal snub for a country en masse. Of course every snub has an if not an equal, atleast an opposite reaction. Which is why SRK fearing it would
boomerang on his movie, decided to soothe frayed nerves. However apparently it seems one persons act of soothing, turns out to be a snub for another person. This time it was the Marathi Manoos who was snubbed, or atleast that was what the Shiv Sena Supremo feels. I guess SRK's act of bowing towards our neighboour meant that all the Supremo could see was his posterior, which could explain why he felt offended. However somewhere being the snubs and cross snubs, the issue turned from cricket and our neighbours to the Marathi Manoos vs the Rest of the world. Leave it to SS Supremo to mak international issues personal.
However his position on the issue turned out to be a snub for the Scion, who now felt that the Sena Chief was turning his back to the rest of the country. The vitriol that following would hav probably culminated with a few black flags, ransacked public places and general mayhem (on levels Mumbai is now quite accustomed to) during the Scions visit that was to follow. But then the geriatric forgot the arrogance of the youth (and its associated follies), which was when Indias PM in waiting decided to cock a royal snook to one and all and decided to emphathise with the masses by boarding the local trains. This one however really was more than a snub, a thapad which caught the local chieftains so unaware that they still havent found their tongue or atleast reply back in kind.
Of course while the main course of snubs was being served domestically, an international snub fest was already taking place. Pak managed to convince the "international community" of US and UK to snub out Indias hope for a more strategic presence in Afganistan. Meanwhile the "PM's speech on climate change yesterday came out as a snub on the UN Framework convention. With all this real life drubbing, for once all the reality shows, with all their hue and cry on who snubbed whom, are fast turning out to be tepid affairs. Guess the Scions Namesake whos looking for his better half on telly these days, will need to up his ante and deliver some wholesome snubs to get his viewers back. Like they say "Snub or be Snubbed".
